Thousands of Opel workers walk along a street in Ruesselsheim, central Germany, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. Opel employees walked off their jobs to attend a mass rally at the automaker's headquarters, protesting against General Motors' decision to abandon the unit's sale to new owners that the workers hoped would preserve jobs. Thousands of the 25,000 employees from Opel's four German factories vented their frustration and anger at GM, which after months of negotiations decided Tuesday to scrap the sale of a majority in Opel to Canadian auto parts maker Magna International Inc. and Russian lender Sberbank.

An image of the General Motors World Headquarters located in the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan, USA on 30 May 2009. The Detroit-based automotive giant stunned both the German government and Opel employees on 04 November, when after months of negotiations to sell the firm to an Austrian-Russian consortium, it
announced it would now restructure the firm itself. Workers at all four of troubled-carmaker Opel‘s plants in Germany were set to strike 05 November, following owner General Motors‘ surprise announcement that it would not now sell off its European subsidiary.
