11/11/2009 Kabul’s Darul Aman palace, which was shelled to ruins by warlords during the civil war of the early 1990’s. Now these feared ex-warlords are back in positions of power, in part because the U.S. turned to them in 2001 to help oust the Taliban after the Sept. 11 attacks.
