<p><strong>Singapore</strong> è l&#8217;unico Paese - insieme alla Thailandia - dove gli antichi rituali di purificazione tradizionalmente compiuti durante la festa hindu di <strong><em>Thaipusam</em></strong> <span class="modul2">non sono ancora stati vietati. </span></p>
<p><span class="modul2">Si tratta di un </span>importante <strong>rito hinduista, incentrato sulla punizione della carne e sulla  celebrazione della vita e dell’amore sulla morte</strong>, che si celebra nel <span class="modul2">decimo mese del calendario Tamil, il Thai, quando la costellazione del Pusam è nell’ascendente e la luna piena splende nel cielo.</span></p>

<p><span class="modul2">In migliaia </span>rendono omaggio a Muruga, figlio minore di Shiva, compiendo <strong>riti propiziatori e di purificazione attraverso il dolore corporeo</strong>: occhi sgranati e roteanti, danze fino allo svenimento o al raggiungimento dell&#8217;estasi e, soprattutto, <span> il <em><strong>Kavadi</strong>, </em>un rituale in cui i devoti, in <em>trance</em>, si infilano nella carne spilloni e uncini, senza lamenti, senza che ne esca sangue, né che si formino cicatrici. </span></p>
<p>Chi partecipa alla festa, si prepara per un mese intero purificando il corpo attraverso la preghiera, l&#8217;astinenza sessuale e un solo pasto vegetariano al giorno. Nel giorno precedente all&#8217;inizio della festa, c&#8217;è poi un digiuno totale di 24 ore.</p>
