China?s Three Gorges dam prepared on 19 July 2010 to face its biggest test since its completion in 2008, officials said, with a major flood peak expected to arrive along the Yangtze River early 20 July. The approach of the flood peak follows warnings that downstream areas near the Yangtze in central China could face the worst flooding since 1998, when more than 4,000 people died and some 18 million were evacuated.
