The Cathedral, which was built on order of former Russian Tzar Vassili III. in 1532, is the oldest building in Kolomenskoe park. Kolomenkoe is an ensemble of parks at the former outskirts of Moscow which combines amusement parks, Open Air museums and church buildings, of which the Cathedral of the Ascension was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
