Marea nera, l’incubo in Nuova Zelanda
Due navi, la Phoenix e la Northern Star, si preparano alla missione di recupero del carburante disperso in mare
A handout picture provided by Maritime New Zealand on 09 October 2011 shows the two ships, the Phoenix and the Northern Star, as they prepare to take out oil spill response equipment to the grounded vessel Rena, near Tauranga, New Zealand, 09 October 2011.
They are tasked with recovering quantities of heavy fuel oil in the water. Salvage experts worked to stabilize the loaded container ship stranded on a reef off New Zealand as heavy fuel oil leaked into the sea and forecasters warned of worsening weather. The New Zealand Defence Force has personnel on standby to move to Tauranga at short notice to help with a clean-up if that should be required.
Officials estimated that 10 tons of oil had leaked from the vessel stuck on a reef 22 kilometres off Tauranga since 05 October.
